Hilti’s new saw cuts metal without damage
Discover Hilti’s new cordless metal-cutting saw that delivers clean, spark-free cuts without heat damage for professionals.

The Hilti SC 6ML-22 cordless metal-cutting circular saw is designed for professionals who require clean, fast cuts without sparks or excessive heat. This tool, part of Hilti’s Nuron battery platform, replaces an older model with improvements in speed, weight, and ergonomics.
A cold cut that stays cool
The saw uses a 6½-inch blade rotating at 4,000 RPM—slower than abrasive tools like grinders but sufficient to slice through ¼-inch mild steel effortlessly. Its cold-cut design keeps materials cool to the touch, while an integrated spark catcher collects debris in a removable tray behind the blade guard. The collector is efficient and easy to empty.
The tool handles sheet goods, pipe, and conduit with ease, thanks to a 2⅜-inch cutting depth. During testing, it cut ⅜-inch angle iron at a slower pace. The finish was smooth, avoiding burrs and discoloration typical of abrasive methods.
An adjustable fence snaps into the steel shoe for straight cuts. Optional guide rails and pipe adapters expand its use for specialized tasks. Electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians will find it useful for cutting channels, pipes, conduits, and profiles, as well as openings in sheet metal for HVAC applications, sandwich panels, mesh, and corrugated sheet metal.
Design tweaks improve comfort and visibility
The SC 6ML-22 weighs 5.9 pounds without a battery and 7.5 pounds with the recommended 4.0Ah Nuron pack. This makes it about 1.5 pounds lighter than its predecessor. The main handle is slightly thicker, with a smoother rubber overmold, and the grip angle now runs more parallel to the cutting surface.
Visibility is improved with a larger clear plastic shield around the blade guard, blocking shavings while providing a clear view of the cut line for both left- and right-handed users. An onboard LED light and dust blower keep the line free of debris, and the blade brake stops rotation within seconds when the trigger is released.
The shoe features larger alignment guides, improving overall accuracy.

The grip and pommel spacing is tighter than before, but testers found it comfortable. Compared to compact models from other brands, this layout feels more open.
Nuron batteries add power
The saw operates on Hilti’s Nuron batteries, which use improved cell selection and cooling to handle heavier workloads. Hilti suggests the 4.0Ah B 22-85 battery for the best balance of weight and runtime.
The saw costs $436 as a bare tool or $625.75 with two B 22-85 batteries and a charger.
For trades that cut metal daily, the SC 6ML-22 can save time. The cold-cut process removes the need for secondary finishing, and the lack of sparks makes it safer for indoor use. Occasional users may still prefer an angle grinder with a cutting disc, as it remains the more affordable option.
The saw’s speed and clean cuts make it ideal for professionals who value precision. Upgrades over the previous model are noticeable, especially in weight and visibility.
Hilti lists the saw’s dimensions at 11.6 inches long, 6.5 inches wide, and 10 inches tall. The steel shoe resists wear, and the build quality reflects the brand’s premium standards.
