Craftsman is offering a limited-time trade-in event where customers can swap an old power tool battery for a free V20 Advanced battery and charger kit, plus a $50 coupon toward future purchases.

How the trade-in works

The promotion runs through July 31, 2026, but only on select dates at participating Lowe’s and Ace Hardware stores. Customers can bring any qualifying power tool battery from any brand and receive a free Craftsman V20 3Ah Advanced Battery and Charger Kit in exchange.

Along with the free kit, they’ll get a $50 coupon valid for same-day use on any V20 product. The coupon must be used the same day as the trade-in, and it applies only to current stock at the store where the exchange takes place.

Supplies are limited, and the offer is restricted to one per household.

Where and when to go

Lowe’s is hosting the event on select dates at participating locations, with availability varying by state. Some areas have only a few stores running the promotion, so customers should check ahead to confirm their nearest participating store.

Ace Hardware’s offer is even more limited, running only on July 11 and July 18, 2026. The $50 coupon at Ace requires a minimum $50 purchase of V20 products on the same day.

Both retailers note that the free battery and charger kit cannot be returned or exchanged. The terms differ slightly, with Ace’s coupon requiring a same-day purchase.

For those who’ve been eyeing an upgrade, the deal might be worth the effort—especially if they already have an unused battery collecting dust. Still, the limited dates and locations mean planning ahead is necessary.

What to know before trading in

The free kit includes a 3Ah battery.

Customers should also note that the $50 coupon can’t be combined with other promotions, and it’s only redeemable at the store where the trade-in occurs. Those who don’t have a participating location nearby may find the effort outweighs the benefit, especially if they’d need to drive far for a single-day deal.

For now, the promotion is a rare chance to get a free tool accessory without a purchase requirement. But with supplies limited and dates scattered, it’s not a guarantee for everyone.
