So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish

Hey everyone! Long time, no see.

In the middle of November I disappeared, and it’s taken me this long to find the time to return. I’ve been running Everything Alyce since July 2014, and I haven’t ever allowed myself to take a break. It’s been nice to focus on other things for a few weeks (specifically NaNoWriMo and university).

But with 2017 coming to an end and a shiny new year arriving, I thought it was about time for me to get back to blogging.

What have I been up to?:

During my time away, I did pretty much the same as normal. I went to a bunch of concerts (most notably Don Broco’s Alexandra Palace headline show and The Killers second night at the o2 in London). I managed to complete my Goodreads reading challenge, despite being over thirty books at one point in the year. My first semester of university also came to a close, and having deferred my second semester – more on that at some point – I’ve been job hunting like crazy since moving back to Swindon.

Can you see why I haven’t had enough time to blog?

However, it hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows. Since moving back to Swindon I’ve been on a downhill spiral of illness. It started off simply, with a sore throat and the sniffles. After that, it seemed to develop into the flu. Then, last night, I was at the pub with my friends and I felt the telltale shooting pain of an ear infection beginning. Turns out, it was two ear infections: one in each ear. I am so very blessed.

Where do we go from here?:

In all honesty, I think I’ve taken Everything Alyce as far as I physically can.

Since purchasing this domain and moving to WordPress it’s been an uphill struggle to motivate myself. I’ve been desperate to edit all of my old posts, make a cohesive style and craft an attractive layout… But, with three years of posts to trawl back through, that sounds utterly impossible.

Instead of forcing myself to revitalise this site, I’m going to allow it to fade away. It was only ever meant to be a temporary project to keep me busy when I finished sixth form, but it became much more than that. Not only is this place a huge part of my identity, but I’ve achieved far more with it than I ever thought would be possible. I’ve taken part in countless blog tours, I’ve reviewed concerts all over the country, and I’ve read 200+ books for the past two years, writing about most of them here. I’m pretty impressed with all of those achievements.

So… This is goodbye?:

No, my friends.

Everything Alyce is coming to a close, but in its place I’m opening a brand new blog. Over the next six months, I’m hoping to slowly migrate across the best material, cutting the crap and making my new site the best that it can possibly be. Hopefully, by the beginning of 2019, big things will be happening.

I’d like to thank you all for your loyalty over the past three years, and your patience throughout the last two months. It can’t have been fun to have me randomly disappear without a warning!

Today was supposed to be the grand launch day, but thanks to the ear infections my brain hasn’t been working properly. At least this way you have some information about what the new year will hold for Everything Alyce, but I’ll need you to check back over the coming days to find out more about my brand new project…

Thanks again for being great,

Alyce

  • Good luck with your new endeavor! It sounds like a great opportunity to reinvent your blog identity. I’ve contemplated deleting old posts that aren’t up to par, so I know how it feels to want to better the blog.
