It pains me to say this, but I have a terrible memory. Sometimes it’s less than a month until I’ve forgotten the name of a protagonist from a book I’ve loved.
I’ve cared about a lot of side ships over the years, but I’ve struggled to even remember five of them. (Spoiler alert: I don’t even really care about some of these anymore! I can just remember being really supportive of them way back in the day).
5) Alice Cullen and Jasper Hale – Twilight
Their story is the most adorable aspect of Twilight. Alice had a vision of Jasper and knew that he was going to be a huge part of her future. Alice waited thirty years for him, but within two years of meeting they were married and living with the Cullen family. I wish Stephenie Meyer had explored their story further: I would have loved to read more of their life together.
4) Simon Lewis and Isabelle Lightwood – The Mortal Instruments
Isabelle is so overly confident and sexual, and Simon is a puppy dog. When they meet he’s so intimidated by her, but boys always treat her badly and he respects her. I love these two, because it looks like it shouldn’t work but it works so well!
3) Cole St. Clair and Isabel Culpeper – Shiver
I loved Grace and Sam’s relationship, but Isabel and Cole kept me coming back for more. I remember crying my eyes out at the end of ‘Forever’, when it looked like they weren’t going to end up together. ‘Sinner’, the spin-off featuring them, came out a couple of years after the series finished. I’ve still been unable to read it, because I won’t be able to cope if they don’t stay together.
2) Wesley ‘Link’ Lincoln and Ridley Duchannes – Beautiful Creatures
(I have no idea where this gif. is from, but it looks exactly how I pictured Rid and Link!)
Ethan and Lena in Beautiful Creatures are destined to be together, so it’s boring to ship them. It’s a will they, won’t they relationship, but it’s obvious that they WILL. Rid and Link, however… They’re far more interesting. Ridley Duchannes has never loved ANYONE, but Link worms his way into her heart. They also got their own spin-off, but instead of just getting a standalone they got their own series. I haven’t read it yet, but I hope they end up having their happily ever after.
1) Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane – The Mortal Instruments
There are SO MANY CHARACTERS in Cassandra Clare’s universe, and I am all about the side ships. While I love Simon and Isabelle, Alec and Magnus are endgame. I can’t think of a ship I’ve cared about more than these two. I didn’t read ‘City of Heavenly Fire’ because Cassandra announced that there were going to be deaths and I was so worried about my babies! There’s just something about these two <3
Those are my five favourite side ships! Do you ship any of these characters, or do you prefer other ships from the same universes?
